About TOM!

Tom Davis, a native Miamian, is a career military officer of more than 30 years. He entered uniform service in 1983 as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Miami Army Reserve Officer Training Corp.  Commissioned as an Infantry 2nd Lieutenant, he held a variety of challenging positions and ended his active duty Army career in 1993 to enter law school.

LtCol Davis attended law school at St. Thomas University in Miami. While there, he and a group of law students organized “Knowledge is Power,” a program that taught a wide range of legal topics to local low-income community members. Upon graduation, he entered private practice for several years, but his love for the military called him back.  He reentered uniformed service in 2000 and transferred to the Air Force Reserve in 2003 as a Chief of Public Affairs Officer at Homestead Air Reserve Base. He was honored to tell the story of the young Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines,, and Guardians filling the ranks of today’s military.  As we learn their stories of duty, commitment, sacrifice and survival, it’s easy to see why LtCol (ret) Davis refers to them as our next “Greatest Generation.”

In 2008 LtCol Davis volunteered for deployment to Afghanistan as Commander of American Forces Network-Afghanistan.  He commanded a joint detachment of 17 Air Force and Marine Corp journalists, traveling the country gathering news stories of the heroic efforts of American and Coalition forces in their attempts to bring peace and stability to the region. LtCol Davis was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for innovative communication and dynamic leadership. His final deployment was in 2015 as Chief of Strategic Communication Planning at the NATO Headquarters in Kabul.

Mr. Davis also recognizes the imperative of contributing to his community. He volunteers hundreds of hours with a variety of community service organizations. Tom has served on the board of directors for Community Partnership for Homeless since 2005 and also volunteered with the Homestead Job Corp, providing invaluable assistance in establishing the Joint Uniform Military Prep (JUMP) and mentoring young people nearing graduation from the program. He’s also volunteered for almost 20 years with Congressman Diaz-Balart’s office reviewing military service academy applications and interviewing those applicants prior to their serving their county in uniformed service. He was also awarded the Miami Dade Chapter of the American Red Cross, Service to the Armed Forces Volunteer of the Year Award.

Today Mr. Davis is retired from the Air Force Reserve and is a middle school and high school teacher at Colonial Christian School in Homestead.

Tom Davis is a proud Citizen Airman and Homestead resident. He proudly defended our country and is deeply committed to his South Florida community and has resided in Homestead for more than 20 years with his wife Jesika and daughter Samantha.
